When it is turned on and after it goes through its start up routine, there is a horizontal line across the top of the screen and a figure ("15 m" – presume 15 metres) shown on the bottom of the screen. It remains that way no matter what, regardless of the depth, speed etc. It definitely doesn’t show the contour of the sea floor or any fish etc. I sometimes use the boat in shallow water and the sounder would be a real help.
The transducer is mounted under the transom.
The diagnostic system shows the transducer is connected. Someone mentioned to me that there should be a film of oil (?) under the transducer. Is this true?How can I test the transducer?

Speed and tempeture are both suplied via the same cable. I get tempeture but no speed. Is this caused by a defective cable or how the receiver is mounted on the boat transum or something else?

The transducer is pointed in the right direction, so It’s not a matter of adjusting it.

I think the problem might be that the transducer isn’t getting power so the depth is displaying the maximum (which is around 800)

I probably need one that shows the the lake bottom out a ways from the boat I’m in. Or does anyone know of another way to find a sunken boat? I only know where it is within about a quarter mile or so.
