About fish finder?

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

Hello,

I want to buy a fish finder for my dad. But except the ones we need to mount on the boat, is there another kind like portable one can use on the fishing rod? or good for fishing near the shore area or like on the little island in the middle of the lake? Which brands are good? Not too expensive one… Still a student.

Thanks,
Shayne
How about HumminBird PiranhaMax 230 Portable Sonar? Is that good and suitable for this case? And how about FishFinder 535? Does it mean if it is sonar portable then I can use it like what I said? Thanks.

does anyone have this portable fish finder? Ive been having a little bit of trouble at times getting it to read even while in the water it does not show the depth. Also does anyone know the proper depth you should have the sensor below the float and how do you mount or troll with it?

One more thing. when it reads fish is that directly below the sensor?

has anyone fished from dock or shore with portable fish finder and if so, how does it work?

humminbird and a few others make a portable fish finder that works like others by identifying objects through sound waves. the ability to fish from shore comes from the transmitter thats casted by the fisherman and trolled over water surface and signals are sent to fisherman on shore who has a small reciever. has anyone used one of these devices???

Humminbird Wide Portable Fish Finder bottom reading not showing.?

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

All other features on my unit work except the bottom reading which shows the bottom structure in gray or black. I took it apart and went through every detail, but could not locate the problem. Anyone with the same problem or fix? Pretty expensive for a compatible unit 9.99. Please help.

Are there any good portable fish finders on the market?

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

I take my son fishing to a couple of lakes and, because I don’t own a boat, I always rent one for the day.
Do you know if there are portable fish finders that can readily attach to a rented 4 person aluminum boat?
If so, where can I buy one.
Any help will be appreciated.

How does a portable fish finder work?

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

I am taking a fishing trip to Ontario this August for Pike and Walleye and will be renting a plain, 12-foot aluminum boat instead of taking mine up. Mainly for walleye I would love to know the depth I will be fishing and am looking into portable fish finders. Basically, I am confused as to how the sensor works… do you actually throw it in the water and it goes down to the bottom then tells you or throw it out over the water and it bounces sonars to the bottom, also could you just set it in the bottom of the boat to get readouts? Thanks in advance.
