Where to mount my fish finder?
I got a new fish finder for my boat. I need to know if it is good to mount the sensor in the inside of the transome of boat or the outside of the boat. I really didn’t want to mount on the out side because I didn’t want to get it knocked off. Also I need to no if the sensor gets knocked off much? Thankyou every answer helps except for stupid ones.

Wachaz,
Yeah you can buy a transducer that shoots through the hull, with no hole in the hull, but I’ve been boating over 40 years and never heard anyone say a good word about that type of transducer. You don’t want a "shoot through the hull" transducer.
Another type of transducer is the "bolt thru hull mount". Stay away from these too unless you like the idea of cutting a hole in the bottom of your hull.
The transom mount transducers are great. I had them on several boats, and even installed a few myself. Just watch where you locate it. NOT too close to the lower unit of the outboard and NOT too close to the outside (port/starboard) of the transom. You want it located in an area of undisturbed water. (As few bubbles as possible while underway). You also want the transducer pointing STRAIGHT DOWN.
I’ve had some of my smaller boats in skinny water many times and never had a problem with anything hitting the transducer. And even if you should do the unlikely and bang something into your transducer, they have "kick-up" mounting brackets for them, and they are easy to re-adjust. Just a couple of nuts.
Here’s a diagram of good and poor locations to install a transom mounted transducer:

Transom mount transducers are the way to go.
