has anyone fished from dock or shore with portable fish finder and if so, how does it work?

humminbird and a few others make a portable fish finder that works like others by identifying objects through sound waves. the ability to fish from shore comes from the transmitter thats casted by the fisherman and trolled over water surface and signals are sent to fisherman on shore who has a small reciever. has anyone used one of these devices???

I have not used a portable one on shore, because you need to be over the water. It sends "waves" to the bottom and when they come back up to the fish finder you see where the fish are below you, because the wave bounces off the fish and not back up to the finder, just the areas around the fish. I guess it might work on a dock, but definitely not on the shore.
