The best and least expensive flasher would be the Vexilar FL-8, (around $300).
PS: And don’t let anyone fool you into buying a liquid crystal unit for Ice fishing. I purchased a cheap portable Hummingbird unit for my canoe thinking it would do double duty as an ice fishing sonar.
WRONG! (lol)
Traditional liquid crystal units don’t "update" fast enough to give you any relevant info.
If you can’t afford a Vexilar or Marcum flasher unit purchase an inexpensive underwater viewing camera like a Fish TV or Aqua View unit, ($120-$220).
Cameras rank 2nd for ice fishing.
The cool thing about Flasher units over Cameras?
Flasher unit’s can shoot through the ice and give you depth readings BEFORE you decide to punch a hole. No one wants to drill "pointless" holes, (esp if your auger is "human powered" LOL)!
Good luck!
